So Not Worth It

I try out a lot of new crafts and a lot of new recipes. I like to try new things.
At least once a week I'll try out a new recipe or craft I've seen on a blog just because I need the creative outlet. I base a craft/culinary endeavor on whether the time/effort put into it was worth what I got out of it. I would say 75% of the time I won't repeat a craft/recipe because it wasn't worth the time put into it. I saw this on bakerella clear last summer and thought, 'oh, I'll make those for teacher appreciation week next year.'
What I done. And what it weren't worth it. It took hours of mixing, dying, baking, cutting, sprinkling, and decorating, not to mention the time I put into printing out/cutting out templates, etc. This craft WILL NOT be repeated, but it is fun to look at, huh? Also, since I made these for my boys' teachers, it looks like I'm one of those super-achiever moms who volunteers for the PTA, goes on all the field trips and runs all the class parties. Well, I've been a room mother two years running and done nary a thing for either class, either year.
This 'thank you' is it. And it's all I plan to do for the rest of the year.
And while I had good intentions to show the teachers my appreciation for what they done for my boys this year, it still wasn't worth it.
Half way through making all this I was ready to just throw it in the garbage and instead buy them each a $5 gift card to the in-n-out. Next year. P.S. Recent crafts/recipes not worth repeating:
Foot Snuggly - Tried to make the cutest crocheted mary jane slippers for Megan's birthday, but as she mentioned on her blog, instead of being the thing one could slip their slender foot into for a snuggly sashay, they looked like they could hold an enormous meatloaf, instead.
Homemade Pot Stickers - took over an hour to put together and the raw meat grossed my pregnant little heart out that I couldn't even enjoy them.
Macarons - Made them. They tasted great, but instead of having the right kind of filling, I used the homemade frosting I had in the fridge and it wasn't the best combo. Plus, that recipe took precision. Luckily I had my new Kitchenaid to meringue them egg whites!

I think there's something about actually making potstickers that makes them undesirable to the chef. Elston made some insanely good potstickers once, but he hated them.

I am yet to try one of Bakerella's recipes. I think they are adorable but I just don't think I have the commitment it would take to finish them. But my! Your creation is very cute! and I agree about potstickers. When I made them I could hardly eat them. How far along are you? In my mind you must be due very soon.

Beth seriously you are awesome! Life doesn't have to be about repeating things, it can be about just trying something new which you have done!! The cupcakes look so great and if I lived there we would visit the Sweet Tooh Fairy weekly, make cupcakes and goodies from Hello Cupcake and Bakerella (but then I would probably be a two ton whale!) and dream of frosting! Can't wait to meet your sweet baby!!!

That bakerella recipe looks so cute and yummy! But if it took you as long as you say, it does not sound fun! oh, and I love your header picture on top. Your kids have grown so much since the last time I saw them. And girl, you are looking good! I mean that!

I'm just AMAZED at your list of accomplishments. I don't understand how anybody gets ANYTHING done. I mean you got 4 dang kids and one kickin' around at your rib cage... and you made me a meatloaf cozy (I need that back by the way...unless you're using it) and you sent me the sweetest little package today that I've ever seen. I took a bajillion pictures so I gonna be bloggin' about it real soon. Beth, you rock... and don't you forget it. I'm so glad you have that kitchenaid!

Adorable!! But I agree that I never repeat things that are a lot of work. But what's this about your kitchenaid? Did you get that lovely grass-green one? And here I was magnanimously planning to buy it for you when my ship comes in. Or for your baby shower. But no, no, nevermind. I'll take it back and get you another meatloaf cozy (on account of Megan needs hers back).

Pamper yourself, Bethy. Maybe get yourself some new dishtowels or some-a-them ressivia.

I want one, too - a green Kitchenaid. Does that make us twins? And me too - if I feel like it takes a lot of work, I can tell by that that I don't love doing it. And there's plenty I do love doing - so why steal time from that? I adore cute food, but when you eat that treat, it's just gonna taste like sugar in the end - like cupcakes and icing. Not magical, like it looks. Still - you really scored on the making it adorable and cool level. I think things like pot-stickers are better bought. As G says: no one can make a Big Mac at home - and they shouldn't be able to if they could.
